African Fashion Designers Dazzle at an Exclusive Night of Glamour and Awards

The Podium Event Centre was transformed into a dazzling showcase of African creativity as designers, tastemakers, and cultural leaders from across the continent converged for the African Fashion Designers Awards (AFDA)—an evening dedicated to celebrating innovation, craftsmanship, and excellence in fashion.

From the moment guests arrived on the black carpet, the atmosphere signaled a night of prestige. Inside, a high-energy runway presentation unfolded, capturing the bold spirit, cultural depth, and modern vision that define contemporary African fashion. Each collection told a story—rooted in heritage, yet forward-looking—setting the stage for a night that honored Africa’s creative power.

The highlight of the evening came with the announcement of the top awards. Labaleo Collections of Nigeria claimed African Fashion Designer of the Year (Male), while Angelica Nvula of Angola secured the Female Designer of the Year title. Both designers stood out for their exceptional craftsmanship and their ability to elevate African fashion to a global standard.

As the runway gave way to the awards ceremony, industry pioneers and creative leaders were recognized for their lasting impact. Linus Okorie and Keppy Ekpeyong received Lifetime Achievement Awards for their remarkable contributions to Africa’s creative industries. Celebrity stylist Ugochukwu George Igbokwu was honored as African Best Hair Stylist, while Adetoun Onanobi received the Distinguished Humanitarian Award for her work advancing health and sustainability initiatives.

The celebration extended beyond fashion to recognize excellence across media, arts, culture, and innovation. Honorees included King VC Perez, Joy Makun, Queen May, Kelvin Ugwoudo, Yemisi Suleiman, Jide “Jblaze” Oyegbile, Elder Ernest Osadolor, Omoni Oboli, Ruth Kadiri Ezerika, Dr. Akin Faminu Emmanuel, Seyi Adekunle Vodi, Mudi Africa, Dare Aliu, Tokyo James, Bukonla Adebakin, Chude Jideonwo, Chef Gibbs, Ifeoma Okonkwo, Yasmin Belo-Osagie, Zainab Elias, Jennifer Imnion, Don Jazzy, WurlD, Omoyemi Akerele, Tokunbo Akerele, Blessing Obasi Nze, Yolanda Okereke, Denrele Edun, Anthony Awopetu, Temilade Oni, and other influential figures shaping Africa’s creative economy. Special Creative Impact recognitions, presented by partners such as Johnnie Walker and Darling Hair Nigeria, further elevated the evening’s prestige.

Rising and established fashion brands were also celebrated for pushing boundaries within contemporary African design. Standout names included Joe Parson, Mak Africa, Rojuascent, 2207 by Tbally, Emmanuel Goodnews, Juma Jux, Priscilla Ojo Mkambala, Arnold Umole, Thomfelix Concept, Luxe by Annie, Kikelomo Solomon Ayeni, Blossoms Daniel, and Labaleo Collections, which earned additional recognition for its bespoke couture and leadership in African menswear.

The night concluded with an energetic after-party, as guests continued to celebrate the creativity and connections forged throughout the event.
